Yahoo Sports mobile growth
Context
Yahoo Sports is a top sports app in North America. From 2018, we had many initiatives to acquire new users, like the NFL live streaming, NBA league pass, Play tab, and sports betting. With the big investment and usage surge in those modules, the overall retention and engagement were still quite low. I took the lead to identify the issues and developed a strategy and design focused on boosting mobile user growth.

Addressed weaknesses through a redesigned onboarding
Redesigned the onboarding experience to provide users a clearer value props, simplify the process to complete the core actions of adding their favorites, and enable users to customize the notifications.

Bridged gaps by highlighting major sports events
Designed and launched NFL draft, increased the draft tab DAU by 800% YOY. Then I proposed a solution to replicate the success, to cover more sports events across the year, such as NBA finals, F1 race, PGA tour, Olympics, etc.

Amplified our strengths in league scoring
Scores is the most popular tab in our app. Users spend 80% of their time in the app on it. After I redesigned, it increased the Scores tab weekly visitors by 56%.

Elevated the overall experience with a comprehensive reskin
Reskined the entire product to provide a more consistent and delightful experience. Tested wildly the new design through in-lab testing, fans night, and in-app survey. The redesign got lots of positive feedback. After launch, our NPS surged 10.
